This course, an overview of the print production process, is intended for people new to the field and for editors, writers, designers, and graphic artists who need to understand how publications processes make up the "big picture" of print production. Topics include:
- Processes and principles of graphic production, pre-press, and printing
- Basics of design, typography, and layout
- Electronic advances in desktop programs and in printing plants
- Working with vendors
- Basics of scheduling, estimating, and quality control
NOTE: Managers should take Project Management for Publications for a more thorough treatment of scheduling and estimating. Quality control is a major theme in Managing the Publications Department.
